Solution
Doctors just get 8 minutes to conduct teach back because they need to do documentation in the EMR system as well. However, teach-back takes time and patience. Even after a successful teach-back session, patients need to refer the pamphlets at home incase they forget the medical instructions. Hence, the voice AI could be the future for teach-back.
Patient watches the video that is assigned by clinician
When patients go home, they are assigned instructional videos to watch but there is no way to know if patients are confused or not. And hence, the strength of Voice AI.
Patients perform teach-back in chunks while seeing the video
Feedback from testing: Patients already have anxiety, gamification about their medical instructions could backfire. Also, teach back is not a quiz!
Feedback from testing: Patients loved the aspect of chunking but there were some concerns regarding the use of AI with healthcare.
Patients were a little skeptical when it came to performing teach-back with AI (even though effective).
A large proportion of patients include non-tech-savvy people and hence catering at-home teach-back with VoiceAI could be an issue.
